The intent was to design a space that would effortlessly immerse visitors in the evolving coffee culture. Serving as a stage and sensorial sanctuary, this roastery celebrates the process of roasting, brewing and blending. The approach is manifested through a vocabulary that allows the process of coffee-making to take centre stage and subtly evokes the raw beauty of coffee plantations.
The spatial narrative draws its inspiration from the delicate coffee berry, its organic growth patterns, vibrants crimson hues and spherical geometry. Polished MDF, oxidised copper and deep red laminated glass, together establish a visual language that speaks to the process from bean to brew.
A dynamic installation wall anchors the space. Comprising 1365 individual MDF discs, finished in a natural polish it amplifies the prevalent raw character. The visitors can unpeg and reposition the discs, transforming the wall into an ever-changing canvas of collective expression.
Copper is used strategically throughout to create visual anchors and infuse. It lends a bold and tactile richness. A commanding circular copper sheet forms the backdrop of the retail display. This language also extends to the smallest details, from the logo-engraved door handle, furniture beading, to the skirting.
